County by county: Confederate memorials in Tennessee
In 2013, the Tennessee Wars Commission had a survey conducted of all war and war-related monuments in the public domain in the state of Tennessee.
There are approximately 70 Confederate monuments.
Twelve are in cemeteries, 37 are in or around county court houses and 21 are in other public spaces, according to Tim Hyder, director of programs for the Tennessee Wars Commission.
More:In the South, Confederate monuments often protected, hard to remove thanks to state laws
They range greatly in size and scope from "small brass plaques that commemorate a certain unit to the confederate monument in the traffic circle in Franklin," Hyder said.
