With so many recent incidents of thieves using Muskego residents' identity to open credit card accounts in their names, Muskego police are warning residents to get copies of their credit reports.

The thieves are tending to open the fraudulent accounts at US Bank, police said.

Police said people can get their credit reports for free at annualcreditreport.com. They are entitled to a free copy from Equifax, Experian and Trans Union, police said.

People can monitor their credit report all year long to catch fraudulent accounts before they do major damage to their credit history, by requesting a free copy from one of the reporting agencies, then waiting four months and requesting a second copy from one of the other agencies, then waiting another four months and requesting a copy from the third agency, police said.
