MUSKEGO — Twelve families were evacuated into the night about 11 p.m. Sunday when a fire broke out in the apartment building where they lived in the W18500 block of Janesville Road, Muskego.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Tess Corners Volunteer Fire Department contained the fire to two apartments.

The American Red Cross helped take care of the families who were displaced. None were allowed to return to the building until the smoke detectors that the fire knocked out are fixed. A couple lived in one of the two units involved and a woman lived in the other unit, Muskego police said.

There were no injuries.
