MUSKEGO - The cause of a trash receptacle fire that spread to a mainly vacant manufacturing building was under police investigation as of Monday, June 19.

The Tess Corners Volunteer Fire Department received a call about 4:30 a.m. Monday concerning a fire at the former G & W Patterns Inc., S66 W19444 Tans Drive. The fire spread from the trash receptacle to the roof, said Fire Chief Carl Wojnowski.

Although the fire was confined to the roof, the interior sustained smoke damage, he said. Total damage is estimated at $60,000, Wojnowski said.

There were no injuries, and firefighters had the fire under control in about an hour, he said. Tess Corners received help from fire departments in New Berlin, Vernon and Big Bend.

The business has been closed for some time, and an auction was held for the equipment, he said. One machine was still inside the building when the fire broke out.
