New Berlin - Break out the holly and the Dancing Grannies, it's Christmas time again.
New Berlin knows how to make merry and will be in full swing Saturday, Dec. 3. The Christmas parade will step off at 3 p.m. with bands, the Dancing Grannies back after a two-year absence and a live Nativity scene including camels, goats, sheep and a donkey. The Holy Family and the manger will be on wheels. Holy Apostles Vista Group has presented the live Nativity in the parade for the last three or four years.
The New Berlin Prospect Lions club is sponsoring the parade that also will feature both high school bands and other musical units and three floats, said John Ziino, celebration chairman. Two of the floats will be from Holiday Inn Exp[ress and La Quinta Inn and Suites.
Santa will be the climax of the parade, and the one the children are waiting for.
The happy procession will start at Moorland Road and National Avenue, heading west on National to Al Stigler Parkway where it will turn into Malone Park.
Arriving at the park, Santa will take an honored place in the firehouse and take all the Christmas wishes of youngsters. He even will give them a little gift and pose for photos with them. This year, children will be entertained while they wait in line for their turn to speak with the Big Man Himself. A balloon artist will make balloon animals for the children and face painting will be offered.
Also right after the parade will be the official lighting of the New Berlin Christmas tree. Mayor Dave Ament will speak and kids in the crowd will get Christmas stockings stuffed with candy.
Back in the firehouse, families will be able to warm up with hot chocolate and hot dogs served by Boy Scout Pack 93. Visitors also will be welcome to look at the fire trucks parked inside the firehouse.
