A California driver tried to outsmart police last week by using a mannequin so he could drive in the carpool lane.

The Brea Police Department posted a picture of the mannequin, which was donning a black t-shirt and riding shotgun in a man's pickup truck on Sept. 22.

According to police, an officer on a motorcycle pulled up beside the driver of the pickup truck on Sept.21, and noticed that the passenger seat was occupied not by another person, but by a mannequin.

“The officer stopped the driver and issued him a citation for being solo in the carpool lane,” according to the post.

According to police, the driver said the mannequin trick had worked before.

“The driver admitted to having done this for quite some time, and related that he would now just accept the fact he needed to sit in traffic like everyone else,” according to the post.

Hey, the high-occupancy vehicle lane does look pretty tempting when you are stuck in traffic.
