Democratic senators search for the GOP health care bill at CBO

Senate Foreign Relations Committee member Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) participates in a committee hearing about Libya in the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill April 25, 2017 in Washington, D.C.

'Twas a journey taken by cab and livestreamed for all to see, even if it was all for naught.

So went Tuesday's search for the Senate GOP's health care bill by three Democratic senators: Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Brian Schatz of Hawaii.

In a stunt reminiscent of that time that Democrats and Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky went on a search for the House version of legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, the three took a cab to the Congressional Budget Office to ask for details about the bill.

As expected, they didn't learn anything.

But perhaps it accomplished a bigger goal: to draw more attention to the fact that Senate Republicans are crafting this health care bill but have had no committee hearings or debate about it.

And, in case you were wondering, Schatz paid the cab fare (credit card machines are a gift), though Murphy joked that Booker should, given that the New Jersey Democrat got a $400,000 advance on his autobiography back in 2015.
