Muskego skier qualifies for WIARA All-State team

Muskego junior Hunter Bindas has qualified for the Eastern High School National Championship Alpine Ski Meet at Attitash Mountain in New Hampshire.

Bindas helped the Warriors take 10th place at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Alpine Racing Association state championships, Feb. 18-20 at Mt. LaCrosse in LaCrosse. She finished second to earn the silver medal in the giant slalom and also had strong races in the Super G and slalom to place fifth overall among individuals.

As part of the WIARA All-State team, Bindas is one of 24 skiers (12 boys and 12 girls) that will compete at the Eastern High School National Championships, March 10-11.

New Berlin Generals holding new player signup dates

The New Berlin Generals Youth Football program of the AAYFL has set its new player signup dates for the 2017 season.

Those interested in signing up will have two opportunities: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 1, and 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 5. Both signups will be held in the Eisenhower cafeteria.

The full tackle league is open to all kids going into third to eighth grade in the fall and who live or attend school in the Eisenhower school district.

The cost to play is $350 upfront, which will be reduced to $250 in August following participation in the program's fundraiser. If you have questions or want more details, contact the Generals President Matt Kern at mkern3341@wi.rr.com.

West, Eisenhower girls compete at state

New Berlin Eisenhower and New Berlin West's sixth-grade girls basketball teams competed at the Division 2 Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament in Manitowoc and Merrill on February 18 and 19. The Lions won the Division 2 championship, while the Vikings took third place.

Eisenhower beat Lakeland (33-25), Kaukauna (38-20) and Notre Dame (47-10) in pool play before downing Beaver Dam (44-13) in the Round of 16. The Lions then beat Hortonville, 31-28, in the quarterfinals and New Berlin West, 30-12, in the semifinals. Eisenhower won the title with a 42-14 win over Pewaukee in the finals.

The Vikings went 3-0 in pool play, earning wins over Ashwaubenon (30-13), Milton (29-19) and Onalaska (35-17).

West then beat Menasha, 25-17, in the Round of 16 and beat West De Pere, 40-35, in the quarterfinals before falling, 30-12, to New Berlin Eisenhower in the semifinals. The Vikings bounced back with a 40-32 win over Waunakee to take third place.

Ella Kern of West and Ava Meyer, Shea Saikie and Kendall Witt of Eisenhower were named to the All-Tournament Team for Division 2.

Muskego fifth-graders compete at state

Muskego's fifth-grade girls basketball team finished in fifth place in Division 1 at the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament on Feb. 18 and 19.

The Warriors went 1-2 in pool play, losing 33-30 in overtime to Kimberly and 27-15 to Neenah before winning, 25-18, against De Pere. Muskego won the play-in game, 27-21, over Homestead but then lost, 27-16, to Neenah in the eighth-place quarterfinals. The Warriors ended the tournament with two wins, downing Appleton North, 38-13, in the consolation semifinals and beating Sun Prairie, 38-29, in the fifth-place game.

Maggie Mattek was named to the All-TournamentTeam for Division 1.
