Five entries will give the Muskego boys track and field team a good presence at this weekend's WIAA Division 1 State Meet.

Junior Austin Hewitt leads the way after finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles with 40.45 seconds in a sectional meet on May 26 at Whitnall High School.

The top three in each event at the sectional automatically qualify for the state meet, which will take place Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4, at La Crosse.

Special qualifiers for state were announced after press time for this issue.

Besides Hewitt, the Warriors also sent two other individuals and two relay teams to state through the sectional meet.

The individuals placing third at the sectional were junior Jorin McGuire in the discus with 147 feet-4 inches and junior Jim Kerns in the triple jump at 43-4.

The relay teams qualifying were the 4x100 unit of senior Sam Sadowski, sophomore Justin Kotarak, senior Keith Kamer and senior Grant LeGros with 43.39 seconds and the 4x400 unit of Kotarak, senior Tyler Wehr, Kamer and LeGros at 3 minutes, 27.73 seconds.

The Warriors tallied 64 points for fifth place in the meet, which was won by Oak Creek with 139 points.

Also competing in the sectional were Ryan Tobin in both the discus (141-10) and shot put (49-11 1/2), Sadowski in the long jump (20-53/4) and the 4x200 relay team of Sadowski, Kotarak, Wehr and LeGros (1:29.97), which were all fourth; Hewitt in the 110 hurdles (15.84) and the 4x800 relay of Adam Kierzek, Kyle Neuroth, Harrison Foss and Jake Petri (8:19.57), both of which were fifth; Ayden Malcomson, who was sixth in the long jump (19-8); and Kierzek, who was eighth in the 3,200 run (10:22.89).

Muskego finished second in its regional meet on May 23 with 118 points. Tobin was the lone winner, in the shot put (48-2).
