It was a week of mixed results for Muskego's boys swimming and diving team.
After losing handily to Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial, the state's top-ranked team, in a conference dual meet on Jan. 19, the Warriors responded by winning 10 of 11 events to claim the team title at the Hartford Relays on Jan. 21.
Muskego accumulated 84 team points to easily finish ahead of Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine/Pewaukee (61), Sheboygan South (48), Fond du Lac (45) and Hartford (42).
"This meet provided the release of frustration of Thursday's meet," Muskego coach Larry Milton said. "This meet is meant to give the boys a chance to make their own lineup. With this community effort, we won 10 of 11 events and set two new meet records."
The Warriors set meet records in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Andrew Buelow, Liam Bangs, Evan Slonac and Jack Rohlinger finishing in 3 minutes, 29.42 seconds and in the 100 freestyle relay with Buelow, Connor Andrews, Josh Paquette and Rohlinger posting a time of 44.41 seconds.
Muskego also won the 200 freestyle relay (Buelow, Austin Hewitt, Jacob Schroyer, Nick Schuster in 1:40.37), the 400 IM relay (Caleb Golden, Ryan Fisher, Slonac, Nathan Gupton in 4:13.67), the 800 freestyle relay (Schuster, Slonac, Gupton, Ben Gabbey), the 300 butterfly relay (Fisher, Paquette, Rohlinger in 2:55.53), the 100 medley relay (Andrews, Hewitt, Golden, Schroyer in 54.40), the 300 breaststroke relay (Gabbey, Paquette, Schuster in 3:24.04) and the 200 medley relay (Jonah Gibson, Hewitt, Fisher, Bangs in 1:50.83).
Waukesha South/CMH set three pool records in a 113-60 victory over host Muskego in a Classic 8 dual meet on Jan. 19.
Rohlinger won the 100 butterfly, and Gabbey took first place in the 100 breaststroke. Milton felt Gupton (200 freestyle), Slonac (200 IM), Paquette (50 freestyle), Buelow (50 freestyle), Gibson (100 backstroke) and Andrews (100 backstroke) also stood out.
"This should not discourage the swimmers," Milton said. "The boys did provide competition for the Blackshirts."
Muskego will next compete at the Classic 8 Conference meet on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Waukesha South High School.
