The New Berlin Eisenhower girls basketball team took home the large school championship at the Wisconsin Varsity Invitational, which featured 32 of the top teams in the state.

Eisenhower opened pool play July 16 with a 52-27 win over Sheboygan South. The Lions then came away with a 48-34 victory over Janesville Craig and a 58-51 win over Waunakee.

The defending WIAA Division 2 state champions then sneaked out a 35-32 win over Brookfield East in the quarterfinals and a 48-40 victory over Brookfield Central in the semifinals.

Coach Gary Schmidt's squad won the large school championship with a 45-31 win over Arrowhead.

The event, which was held at Pewaukee High School and Center Court in Waukesha, included seven of the eight Division 1 and Division 2 state tournament participants from last season.
