New Berlin West seniors Collin Staudt and Katey Devine were named the cross-country program's runners of the year.

Devine qualified for the WIAA Division 2 state meet, where she took 60th place in 20:51.50. Staudt took 43rd out of 76 runners at the Shorewood sectional at Lincoln Park Golf Course on Oct. 22.

Josh Pike and Allie Maniscalco were given the Spirit Award, while Jacob Reyes and Callie Broaddrick were named Most Improved.

Also qualifying for the girls state meet was senior Christa Modrow, who came in 68th in 21:00.69.

Devine, Modrow and Brynn Flanders all earned second team all-conference, while Maniscalco was third team.

The Vikings will lose seniors Staudt, Nick Piotrowski, Josh Buechs, Jacob Bishop, Aaron Barachy and Matt Thomas from the boys team and Devine, Modrow, Maniscalco, Jaclyn Windorff, Anna Klingbeil, Becca Martin, Kathryn Goodspeed and Hannah Wagner from the girls team.

"We have a good crop of freshman that are motivated to continue to the work that the seniors have laid out," West cross-country coach James Braun said. "I'm excited because of all the freshmen and sophomores that finished the season well. They are excited to keep their momentum going into the next year. There are some big shoes to fill replacing four seniors on girls varsity and two seniors on boys varsity."
