NASCAR at Darlington 2016: Start time, lineup, TV schedule, more

DARLINGTON, S.C.  — It’s NASCAR race day at Darlington Raceway, and we’ve got some essential information you need to get ready for Sunday’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 Sprint Cup race.

START TIME: New NASCAR Hall of Famers Mark Martin, Rick Hendrick and Richard Childress, along with Bojangles’ CEO Clifton Rutledge, are scheduled to instruct drivers to start their engines at 6:12 p.m. (ET) today. If you want to skip the pre-race show and just tune in for the race, turn on your TV at 6:20 p.m. for the green flag.

RACE DISTANCE: The Southern 500 is 367 laps around the 1.366-mile track for a total of 501 miles.

NATIONAL ANTHEM: Actor Barry Williams — Greg Brady of The Brady Bunch fame — is scheduled to sing the national anthem at 6:06 p.m.

TV/RADIO SCHEDULE: NBC will broadcast today's race. The pre-race show is scheduled at 5 p.m. (ET) on NBC Sports Network. The Motor Racing Network will call the race on the radio.

WEATHER: Sunday’s forecast calls for an afternoon high of 85 with a 10 percent chance of rain.

Throwbacks provide visual, Chase the focus at Darlington

LAST TIME: Carl Edwards won last year’s Southern 500. Brad Keselowski was second and Denny Hamlin third.

STARTING LINEUP: Kevin Harvick will start the race from the pole position after rain washed out qualifying and the lineup was set by owners points. Also in the top five: Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch and Joey Logano.
