Veteran free agent Rudy Gay agreed to a 2-year, $17.2 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal wasn't announced publicly yet.

There's a player option on the second year of the deal.

Gay suffered a torn Achilles in January with the Sacramento Kings after averaging 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30 games. He opted out of a $14.3 million deal to test his value on the market.

Though he leaves money on the table, the veteran swing man is now on a viable contender.

Upon agreeing to the deal, he posted a picture of a Spurs jersey on social media.
