The Josh Jones file

North Carolina State's Josh Jones (11) closes in on Miami's Gus Edwards at Carter-Finley Stadium on November 19, 2016 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Height: 6-1½.

Weight: 220.

Position: Safety.

Hometown: Walled Lake, Mich.

Lowdown: Ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds, the fastest combine dash on the Packers defense. Had a 37½ inch vertical and 11-0 broad jump. Got 20 reps on the bench press. Arms are 32 inches, 2-hands are 9 3⁄8. Scored 17 on the Wonderlic. Honorable Mention All-ACC, he started all 13 games in 2016 and finished with 109 tackles. His eight career interceptions in three seasons were more than any undergraduate safety drafted in first three rounds. Had 71 career interception return yards and no touchdowns. Versatility is his strength. Able to play box linebacker in nickel and traditional safety. “I have great size to play in the box, great speed to back deep. So I’m just excited to get to work as soon as possible,” he said. Packers like his ability to tackle in box and skill in coverage. “He’s a very good tackler in space and in the box,” director of pro personnel Brian Gutekunst said. “He’s one of those guys at NC State you’ll see they drop him in there, kind of play a will linebacker and he’ll shoot the gap and take on the big guys inside and has no problem doing that. And when he’s back in the back end and he’s got to get the speed guys he has no problem with that either.”
