The New England Patriots appear to have given themselves another weapon to complement tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The Patriots acquired tight end Dwayne Allen in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, Allen confirmed on Twitter.

The Colts were set to receive a fourth-round pick in exchange for Allen and a sixth-round selection, according to ESPN.

Allen had 35 catches for 406 yards and six touchdowns for the Colts last season. Indianapolis re-signed tight end Jack Doyle, who was second on the team in both receptions (59) and receiving yards (584).

Allen gives the Patriots' another pass catching tight end to pair with Gronkowski, who is coming off a back surgery that sent him to season-ending injured reserve in December. Martellus Bennett is set to become a free agent and has expressed interest in testing the market.
